It was meant to be a night of music, memories, and mutual love… a grand celebration dubbed “Friends of Chagga” at Kati Kati Grounds.
But instead of the thumping basslines and star-studded performances, all that echoed through the venue was silence and maybe a few confused crickets wondering if they’d missed the soundcheck.

Veteran musician and talent manager Chagga, a man who brags about shaping many of Uganda’s biggest hits and artistes, was supposed to take center stage in a concert honoring his journey and contribution to the industry. But as fate (and maybe a few unpaid service providers) would have it, the event never took off.
No Chagga. No music. No show.
The singer later took to social media to express his heartbreak, posting a message that left fans torn between sympathy and surprise:
“My friends, the show is today but I’m left alone. I don’t know why they fight me yet I’ve been real since day one.”
It was a raw confession from a man who’s been at the center of Uganda’s music evolution, mentoring stars like Radio & Weasel, and helping shape the sound that once ruled East African airwaves.
But behind the scenes, sources close to the camp whispered a more sobering tune: the concert’s cancellation was reportedly due to a lack of financial backing and support from fellow artistes. Without the expected collaborations or funds, key service providers remained unpaid, forcing the plug to be pulled before the first note could play.
In fact, it is said that singer intimates that with all odds against him, he chose to have a full board meeting with the bottle.

It’s a tough pill to swallow for a man whose name once carried the rhythm of entire generations. Chagga’s disappointment highlights a recurring truth in the entertainment industry; fame fades, loyalty is rare, and the music business can sometimes hit a sour note when it comes to friendship.
