Bebe Cool is one Ugandan artist who feels he deserves all the bragging rights there is. Even though the self-proclaimed Big Size, swallowed his pride regarding song audios and decided to bankroll writers, he still boasts of an unprecedented record of expensive music videos. From the time he released the electric “Love You Every Day”, Zuena’s husband decided to release costly video after costly video. Undoubtedly, this is good for the music industry, but it would be better if the quality too matched with the hefty price tag. Bebe has constantly been given very substandard videos at ‘Hollywood charges’ – the most recent one being “Want It.”
With a runtime of about two minutes fifty-seven seconds, Want It video was shot in South Africa, by Nigerian director Sesan. Behind masterpieces like Oliver Twist by D’Banj, Sesan literally cleaned Bebe’s pockets – by making him part with over USD 20,000 all expenses included. This is about 72.7 Million Uganda Shillings.
Bebe Cool still thinks no one can have a world class video before spending lavishly on Nigerian and South African directors. A Pass who he recently blasted for “shooting cheap videos in shrubs”, just released Didadada video, which looks nicer than Sesan’s over-priced piece.
To put this in perspective, allow me interest you in Vinka’s “Love Doctor” video. The colourful work of art was shot and directed by Marvin Musoke of Swangz Filmz, in 3 different places in Uganda. The budget was about 13 Million Uganda Shillings only.
Well, what say’st thou?
