KAMPALA: Top police chief is among 97 Covid-19 cases confirmed last night by the ministry of health.

Asani Kasingye chief political commissar of Uganda Police Force Sunday afternoon took to his Twitter account to confirm he has tested positive of Covid-19.

Kasingye tweeted: “BAD NEW!! I’AM #COVID19 POSITIVE.”

The police chief was among 97 new Covid-19 cases confirmed by the ministry of health in the country with Kampala registering 57. President Yoweri Museveni will address the nation on Tuesday amidst the recent spike in cases.

Uganda registered the highest number of Covid-19 on Friday with 354 new cases.

The ministry posted on their official Twitter handle: “Results from COVID-19 tests done on 22 August 2020. 97 new COVID-19 cases confirmed today. The cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandans is now 2,263.”

Kampala registered the highest cases from the 97 confirmed. The ministry posted: “Kampala 59, Wakiso 11, Buikwe 6, Luweero 3, Namisindwa 3, Mukono 2, Jinja 2, Kabale 1, Amuru 1, Oyam 1 and Tororo 1.”
Jane Ruth Aceng confirmed on Friday Kampala as the hot spot: “Currently, Kampala Metropolitan Area has the highest numbers of community transmission. A cumulative total of 540 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Kampala since the 23rd March.”

There was a a case from a returnee from Mali confirmed by the ministry. 

 

The ministry named 6 truck drivers from points of entry: Malaba 2, Busia 2, Mpondwe 1 and Padea 1.
The report also had 10 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.
