Explosion on Swift Bus headed to Bushenyi kills 2
President Yoweri Museveni has revealed that the intentions of the killers on the Swift Bus Monday afternoon are clear and plenty.
Police confirmed the explosion and went on to reveal that two passengers died with 37 others including the bus driver coming out unscathed.
National Police Spokesman, Fred Enanga told Galaxy FM that a team had been deployed to establish details of the explosion.
Enanga said: “A team of bomb experts has been dispatched to Lungala, along the Kampala-Masaka highway, after a deadly explosion occurred on a bus belonging to Swift Safaris Bus company under registration number UAU 989T, at around 5pm. The bus was traveling from Kampala to Bushenyi.”
The police mouthpiece added: “So far two people have been confirmed dead and several other victims including injured persons being evacuated from the scene.
The explosion comes three days after the bomb attack in Komamboga.”
He went on: “The scene has been cordoned off pending a thorough assessment and investigation by the bomb experts. We shall periodically give updates surrounding the incident.”
President Museveni who was briefed by security on the explosion tweeted: “Preliminary reports say that the blast was from the seat and it killed only that person and injured the one who was sitting behind.
The hunt continues, the clues are CLEAR and PLENTY.”
Museveni stated: “The remaining 37 other passengers were safe plus the driver. The Police are investigating whether the person blown up was the one carrying the bomb or not.”
The bus explosion comes just days after a blast occurred at Komamboga in Kampala where police confirmed two people dead.
Museveni on Sundat condemned the killers: “As I said earlier, I condemn the action of the “parasite pigs’ ‘ that planted a bomb at Digida Pork Point where they sell pork, sodas and alcohol.
Although these people were breaking curfew hours & using the place as a bar, still the criminality of the perpetrators must be condemned.”
He said: “With those operating outside Uganda, we shall work with the brother African countries, to go for them. Let their supporters, then, not start shouting that we are hunting innocent people.”
Museveni who also refers to himself as Ssabalwanyi of Luwero urged: “All we ask from the public is vigilance and prompt reporting to the nearest police post of anything suspicious.”
The President is expected to appear on national televisions and radio to address the nation on Thursday night on a wide range of matters with Covid-19 and security to feature prominently.
