Police opened fire, shooting teargas and live bullets in order to calm the crowd of students that had turned rowdy at Makerere University’s 87th Freshers’ Ball on Friday evening, forcing Eddy Kenzo to run off the stage for dear life.

Apparently, chaos and drama ensued when students, who had been bonked by booze, started fronting their halls as superior to the others, with each university hall determined to have its members and flag raised high on the stage, which resulted into a battle of ‘who is who’.

Students started fighting each other, with bottles, stones and other objects flying all over the place, forcing singer Kenzo, who was the headliner of the event, to vanish off the stage. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Afande Ochola’s men in uniform had to swing into action to tame the chaotic students.
