Police in Kampala have netted a serial armed robber and gang leader behind a spate of robberies in the Kampala Metropolitan areas.

The suspect Juuko Ramathan alias Bunusu was busted in a security crackdown at Nateete, Rubaga Division on October 11.

The operation was targeting gangs behind in burglaries, thefts and robberies in Katwe police division, Old Kampala police division, Nsangi police division and Wakiso district all involving Bunusu.

During a grilling session at the police, Bunusu weeded out his accomplices in crime. He named them as Mubiru Hassan a resident of Nateete who owns a TV shop, Semakula Gerald aka Golola, Nakate Flavia, Namatovu Rihanna and Allan Mukisa Kiggundu who have all been arrested.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson told our reporter Minah Nalule that Bunusu has participated in a series of machete robberies in Lungujja, Kinaawa, Bulenga, Nsangi, Kitemu estate and along Masaka onions among other areas.

Onyango says during the robberies, TV’s , Laptops, fridges, home theaters and phones were stolen.

One of the suspects, Hassan, sold stolen TVs and other items like laptops and mobile phones to one Kabuye, operating at Cooper complex.

Onyango says police have since recovered 18 TVs suspected to have been stolen and has charged Mubiru with being in possession of suspected stolen property.

Police also searched the residence of another suspect identified as Ashiraf and detectives recovered AK 47 live ammunition , hisense TV , fridge and curtains that were robbed from Bulenga.

Police is now hunting for Ashiraf and two other suspects including Mayor and Golola who accompanied Bunusu in robbery activities.

Onyango says two Local Defence Unit personnel have been arrested for obstruction of justice and concealing information on the gang of criminals. They include; Mukongezi John and Kiteme Godfrey attached to LDU Bulaga.
