There was grief coupled with anger at the railway cell in Kasese municipality after a fifteen months old tot accidentally slide, sinking in a 5 feet Septic pit.

An inconsolable Lauben Thembo, the father to the deceased identified as Sunday Mbusa narrated how the tot had been left to play in the vicinity in the afternoon when he suddenly disappeared.

Thembo says they got concerned after going several hours without seeing the child and launched a hunt for him in the neighborhood but in vain.

It was after a long search that it finally dawned on them that something terrible could have happened, he says they decided to check the nearby septic pit only to find the tot’s lifeless body.

This incident upset almost the whole community with angry residents questioning why people would leave a septic tank open knowing too well that children live within and could accidentally fall in while playing.

The irate residents who threatened to take action against such individuals were stopped by the local police.

Aggrey Kampere, the Officer in Charge- OC Railway police station asked for calm from residents to allow the law to take its course.

Hassan Kamuhanda the Area Councilor expressed regret at the occurrence and added to the voice of the residents blaming individuals for leaving open septic tanks and man-made ditches open despite the knowledge that the area is a homestead.

Vicente Twesige, the Spokesperson Kasese Central Police Division, says the deceased’s body has been handed over to the parents and relatives for burial.
