Retired Maj. Gen Kasirye Gwanga’s temper is up in flames after police recovered the body of his 60 year old sister, Irene Najjita who had been missing for close to a fortnight.

Irene Najjita’s body was on Thursday recovered from a pit latrine.

Kasirye Gwanga says that he is still having a hard time figuring out the motive behind the brutal murder of such an old woman. Gen Gwanga has tasked police to investigate the case and bring his sister’s killers to book.

“She didn’t have a grudge with anybody and we are surprised that thugs took her life in such a brutal manner. We want the police to thoroughly investigate and tell us what the intention of the killers was,” Gen Gwanga said.

Najjita, a resident of Kitalegelwa village in Nalutuntu Sub-County, went missing from her home several weeks ago.

Elizabeth Kasirye, the deceased’s elder sister, notes that Najjita’s character had changed days before she went missing. She adds that Naggita was one of the organizers of Easter prayers at Kitalegelwa, Church of Uganda, but she never turned up on Good Friday.

The Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson Norbert Ochom notes neighbors experienced a foul stench from the pit latrine and informed the police.

” The deceased’s body was found in a pit- latrine at her home. The latrine was full of ashes at its edge. It is suspected that someone had been pouring ashes every day to conceal evidence,” Mr Ochom said.

Ochom says Najjita’s body was taken to Mityana General Hospital for postmortem before it was handed over to family members for burial.

“We rushed to the scene only to find a decomposing body in a pit-latrine. We managed to retrieve it and handed it to the family for burial,” he said.
