Candidates and headteachers are to undergo scrutiny from the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) after setting Monday, February 3, 2020, as the commencement date for the hearing process of results withheld from various schools across the country.

During the release of Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) last month , results of 1,512 candidates were withheld citing malpractice . The same was done last week for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) where a total of 1,262 students across the country had their results withheld.

UNEB chairperson Prof. Mary Okwakol said in accordance with section 4(3) of the UNEB Act 137 candidates and school authorities whose PLE results were withheld would be summoned to appear before the UNEB Security Committee for interrogation starting Monday, February 3 for a fair hearing.

She noted that those who will prove their innocence will have their results released, while those who are found guilty will be punished.

Education Minister Janet Museveni has been heard saying that the ministry will halt the practice of headteachers and teachers whose schools have continuously been involved in malpractice.

Dan Odongo, the UNEB executive secretary said the examinations security committee will spend about four to five days scrutinizing PLE cases before looking into UCE.
