The Portugal International has made a tremendous impact at Old Trafford since his arrival from Sporting CP in January.

Fernandes has been directly involved in seven goals (three goals, four assists) in nine matches, and the Red Devils are undefeated since bringing him to the club.

The former Spotting skipper has already been compared to Eric Cantons, who made a similar impact in Sir Alex Ferguson’s team when he was signed from Leeds United in 1992, and he has now been compared with another Manchester United legend.

And the midfield maestro has got the seal of approval from the club’s longest-serving captain, who believes he could become a huge player in Manchester United’s history.

“What a talent he is! He is not a Roy Keane, Paul Ince or Nicky Butt type of midfielder, he is more like Paul Scholes.

Paul Scholes won 18 major honours at Manchester United, including 11 Premier League titles, the most of any English player.

Fernandes is brilliant at getting in little pockets in between the defence and midfield, he gets into these areas, gets himself space and he’s got terrific vision where he can sees a pass and perform a pass like Paul Schools could, and can score goals too.
