The Electoral Commission has had it with the defiant character of the 2 presidential candidates that have continued to gather vibrant crowds in their rallies.

They have now issued summons to the National Unity Platform, presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and FDC presidential aspirant Patrick Amuriat Oboi.

The two are on the spot for stubbornly refusing to adhere to the standard operating procedures while campaigning.

In a letter authored by the Electoral Commission Chairman-EC Justice Byabakama Simon Mugenyi, Kyagulanyi has been ordered to appear in person at the Commission headquarters in Kampala on Monday, December 14 at 10:00 am to chat a way forward.

Also summoned on Monday is Forum for Democratic Change flagbearer Patrick Amuriat Oboi.

Byabakama clearly states that Kyagulanyi has on several occasions disregarded the guidelines even after promising in a meeting on Dec 2 with the NUP candidate to be more obedient.

“Despite what the Commission communicated in the above-stated meeting and the press communications on the matter, you have continued to ignore and or neglected observing the Standard Operating Procedures by holding mass rallies and processions contrary to established guidelines thereby risking the lives of the people. In the process, this has resulted in unwarranted occasional confrontations with security personnel.”

Meanwhile, two NRM parliamentary candidates, Peter Mugema Panadol of Iganga Municipality and Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo of Kyotera county will face the EC to answer accordingly.

The Electoral Commission banned meetings or rallies of more than 200 people to mitigate the spread of Coronavirus.

Covid 19 cases in Uganda now stands at 25000 cases.
