President Yoweri Museveni says the poor coordination in the Uganda Police led the Gen Katumba assailants to flee.

Museveni has directed the police force to effective immediately drop the use of mobile phones and resume the using radio calls in managing high levels of crime.

The president made the directive after explaining the loopholes surrounding the attempted assassination of Gen Katumba Wamala and killing of his daughter Brenda Nantongo and driver Haruna Kayondo.

The 2 were gunned down by unknown assailants on Motorcycles on Tuesday morninig at Kisasi, Kisota road on their way to a vigil at Najjanankumbi.

The grey Land cruiser was sprayed with over 56 bullets ,injuring Gen Katumba on both arms .

While delivering his address on the state of the nation at the Kololo Ceremonial grounds, Museveni said poor coordination among the police network made it easy for the assailants to escape.

”The recent shooting of Gen Katumba Wamala by the usual actors who I called “Pigs” the other day, showed the poor organization of the police force. The camera I put in place did their work; why didn’t the camera Centre alert all the patrol cars? and even the UAVs”Museveni said

Museveni explained that if the police officers at the Camera center were alert ,they should have sounded an alarm to the others to ensure the thugs are caught.

He adds that the time wasted using mobile phones District Police Commander’s who were asleep at the time of the crime was wrong, noting that the cops on duty should have collaborated with radiocalls.

‘Henceforth, the police are directed to stop using mobile phones and go back to using radios that are open to all police stations so that they can respond promptly.” Museveni added

He also assured the public that security forces have made several strands that will see the assailants captured sooner .

He said they had already discovered the Gun used to fire bullets at Katmba’s car by the assailants.

According to Museveni, the Katumba shooting is a bit different from the previous ones over the years because those happened before Cameras had been installed.

Museveni also explained the need for the digital system that ensures that all vehicles and motorcycles in the counrey are installed with a digital tracker for security purposes.
