The Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises (COSASE) has this afternoon handed over Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Bamuturaki, to Parliamentary Police for probe.

The Committee was today examining academic qualifications of top management of the Airline.

However, it emerged that there were conflict of interest and inconsistencies in the name and academic qualifications/documents of Bamuturaki.

During the process, it came to light that whereas Bamuturaki told the Committee that she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in SWASA (Social Works and Social Administration) in 1994 from Makerere University, she has since never got her academic transcript, 28 years later. She also said she lost her UCE result slip and as such, does not have it.

MPs were also concerned with Bamuturaki’s change of names. For instance, In 2019, she registered a deed Poll changing her name to Jenifer Arnold Lenkai. She, however, she told the Committee that she did not conclude on the process of changing names, as she changed her mind.

The probe also unearthed that the Director Commercial at Uganda Airlines, according to the job description, is supposed have a degree in Business Administration or B. Commerce, but that the current holder, according to the Committee, only has certificates from IATA, “and most of the studies are still ongoing.”

These irregularities promoted the Committee Chair, Joel Ssenyonyi, to hand Bamuturaki and former CEO, Ephraim Bagenda, to Parliament police to record statements over matters of conflict of interest and inconsistencies in their statements.

By press time, it was not clear whether or not the pair would be granted police bond.
