S.1 student in Mubende

Locals in the Central District of Mubende have been struck with grief after a 15 year old student committed suicide by hanging on a mango tree.

The body of Ssekizivu Julius, a student in senior one (S.1) at Kasenyi Secondary School and a resident of Kijumba LC1, Kiyuni sub county was found dangling on the tree by locals on Thursday at 6pm.

ASP Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson says the deceased approached and requested one of the locals identified as Payasi to for a rope his goats were tied to and without suspicion, it was handed to him.

She explains that later that day, Ssekizivu was found dangling on a the mango tree located on church land clad in a school uniform with his sandals to the ground.

At the time of his demise, the deceased was residing with his maternal uncle identified as Ssenyonga Lawrence, a resident of Kasenyi Caltex Lc1.

The lifeless body of the deceased has been taken to Mubende hospital pending postmortem as investigations commence to establish the cause of the suicide.

This incident comes just days after Senior six candidate at Bukoyo SS Iganga committed suicide after chewing his school fees worth 1.2 million shillings. Denis Tukei, was found hanging dead in a dormitory by students, who were returning from lunch.

It is alleged that Tukei was sent away by the school management to collect the school fees balance of 1.2 Million Shillings on Wednesday. However, he instead went to the dormitory and used a mosquito net to hang himself.

One of the students who preferred anonymity said that Tukei was worried when last week, the school administration told candidates with school arrears that they will not be allowed to sit the UACE exams.
