Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol has been added to the Recording Academy as voting members. The group shared the news with their fans and followers on social media.

“Welcome to the Recording Academy Class of 2023. Congratulations to @bienaimesol @iamchimano @itsmefancyfingers and @savarafrica on their invitation to join the @recordingacademy as voting members.”

“The newly invited members epitomize the Recording Academy’s mission to reflect the vibrant global music community we proudly serve,” wrote the band.

Joining the Recording Academy as voting members means Sauti Sol will participate in Grammy Awards selection process by reviewing submissions, casting votes, and influencing the selection of nominees and winners across various award categories.

The Recording Academy announced last week the addition of new categories to the Grammys after a voting process by the Academy’s Board of Trustees. Best African Performance, Best Global Music album and Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording were the three categories added.

Sauti Sol is also set to end their run as a group in September this year, after their world tour performance in Canada.
