The population is running out of patience to remain home as the country battles the deadly Covid-19.

Uganda confirmed 2 cases after a bloody Thursday with 21 cases of COVID-19. The ministry of health said that all are truck drivers who arrived from Mutukula border.The total number of confirmed cases is now 162.

However, the news everybody has been waiting for is the one on how to tame truck drivers from across the border.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng and State Minister for Health in charge of General Duties, Robinah Nabbanja have commissioned the 1st Port Health laboratory in Uganda.

It is a gene expert laboratory with 2 machines and capacity to run 64 samples per hour according to officials at the ministry.

Dr. Aceng confirmed: “Today, I, Hon. Nabbanja, CDC, Dr Lisa Nelson commissioned the port health laboratory at Mutukula Point of Entry to test all truck drivers for COVID-19. The lab has a capacity to run 64 samples hourly and results will be provided to the truck drivers within 45 minutes.”

The minister said that all truck drivers arriving via Mutukula point of entry will be tested for COVID-19 and results given within 45 minutes.

Dr. Aceng said: “If you are found positive, you cannot proceed with your journey. If you’re negative, you are released.”

The cumulative number of foreign truck drivers who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Uganda is 80. Of these, 34 truck drivers have returned to their respective countries.

The number of recovered patients is 63 out of the 160 confirmed cases in Uganda.
