An angry mob on Wednesday night attempted to lynch a man before destroying his property for plotting the death of his neighbor.

Fulugensio Jjuuko of Lukondo village in Byakanda Sub-county, Rakai district is accused of burning to death 22-year-old John Mukaaya for reportedly having a sexual affair with his wife.

The locals allege that after a deep heated fight between the two men over a woman, Jjuuko threatened to kill Mukaaya for stealthily eating his wife’s beans.

A few days after the fight on Tuesday morning at about 2 am, the locals claim that Mukaaya was ambushed by a gang of unidentified goons at his house who locked it from the outside before setting it on fire.

An alert Mukaaya reportedly made loud noises attracting the attention of his neighbors who rushed to the scene and knocked down the door.

Mukwaaya was rescued but with severe burns which he later succumbed to at the hospital where he was taken.

This incident angered the locals who stormed the house of Juuko with petrol and clubs demolishing two houses burning a motorcycle belonging to Jjuuko.

Their next target was to kill Juuko but police rushed to the scene and rescued him although his family had already fled .

Ben Niwamanya, the Rakai District Police Commander, says that they have opened murder charges against Jjuuko but he has denied playing a part in the death of Mukaaya.

they have deployed security personnel in Lukondo to calm down the situation.

Niwamanya says Police has calmed the situation and they are now looking for all those who participated in the mob action.
