Police are investigating two men for impersonating Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF to dupe the public.

The two identified as Simon Waiswa and Muzamiru Kawuzi are in custody at the Jinja based Gaddafi barracks.

The duo was nabbed at the Buwenge Town Council on Wednesday evening clad in Military attire while threatening and robbing the naive residents.

Police learned of the duo after panicking residents filed complaints from various areas including Kamuli, Luuka and Jinja district about them being terrorized day and night by the impersonators on gunpoint.

The residents alleged that the fraudsters have been ambushing taxis on the road and robbing passengers off of their valuables on gunpoint.

Edwin Mawanda, the Jinja Zone UPDF spokesperson, says the suspects, have since confessed to possessing army uniforms but have denied being in possession of firearms.

He says the suspects will appear in the UPDF court-martial for illegal possession of a firearm and government stores.
