Uganda Police has scattered a group Women League Members of opposition Forum For Democratic Change shortly after the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Rebbecca Kadaga questioned the state of the multiparty system in the country.

On Wednesday afternoon Police showered teargas and dispersed a group of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) women league Members who had gathered at their party headquarters in Najjanankumbi.

Four members of the Women League were reportedly bundled up in Police pickups and whisked off as they attempted to march to Parliament to petition Speaker Rebecca Kadaga over the continued brutality by police against opposition politician Kizza Besigye.

Over 30 women-led by Ingrid Turinawe the Women’s league leader and speaker of people’s parliament had congregated at FDC offices in Najjanakumbi, on Entebbe Road to prepare for the march.

On Tuesday Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga questioned the state of the multiparty system in the country, citing the habitual brutality and harassment pointed at the opposition.

This was during a  debate on the police brutality against the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party members and opposition stalwart, Dr. Kiiza Besigye.

On Monday, heavily armed police sprayed Besigye’s car with teargas almost throwing him out of the rooftop and shuttered his windscreen in an attempt to get him out.

The officers also picked up several FDC party members and locked them at the Kira police division.

Kadaga asserted that Ugandans need to understand if there is a multiparty system and whether it is being practiced since these opposition parties are registered and funded by the Government but are not allowed to meet, organize and do anything else.
