Taddeo Lwanga ruled out

The 23 man Squad that was named by the head coach Abdallah Mubiru and travelled Uganda Cranes defensive midfielder Taddeo Lwanga has been ruled of Uganda’s crucial AFCON qualifiers group B tie with Malawi.

This has been confirmed on Monday morning after his COVID-19 test returned positive results after a mandatory test was done on all Cranes players on Sunday ahead of their do-or-die game on Monday evening.

But the Uganda football federation, FUFA has challenged the decision as they say the player has negative results and have further requested Confederation Of African football to consider results from the SADC Accredited Laboratory which has negative results of the player.

This is a blow to Uganda Cranes camp as they are without any experienced defensive midfielder after Khalid Aucho who was dismissed from the camp before the Burkina Faso game for failure to adhere to the National Team’s code of conduct.

Uganda who sit second on the log in group B with eight points, are set to play Malawi in the last group game and need at least a draw against Malawi to seal a third consecutive AFCON finals. Malawi are third on seven points.
