Manchester United will head on the road for the first time this Premier League season as the club looks to swiftly move on from their torrid home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion while Brentford aim to improve on their draw with Leicester.

It was a very contrasting set of results for both sides on the opening weekend. For Brentford, although a draw was not anything to shout about, considering the club came from behind to snatch a point from the Foxes, Thomas Frank and his side will be pleased in the end with last week’s result.

At the same time, with their being five points between the Bees and Leicester last season, the London side can comfortably move forward here without early thoughts of being dragged into a relegation battle in 2022/23.

Brentford did, however, fall 2-0 down quite suddenly in the opening weekend. Timothy Castagne scored from the penalty spot as the Bees’ dreadful record from corners continued, and it was a stunning strike from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall just seconds into the second half that gave the Foxes a 2-0 lead.

Ivan Toney kicked off his season with a goal on the 62nd minute, however, and he is once again going to be vital all campaign long. Josh Dasilva’s excellent strike was the difference in getting a point, however, as he cut inside to score with a beautiful curling effort just four minutes from time.

Two goals inside 10 minutes towards the end of the first half for Brighton was the difference in the end, and the Red Devils couldn’t even get a goal from one of their own players, as Alexis Mac Allister netted an own goal.

It means Erik ten Hag’s efforts in preseason and the positives of the summer now feel meaningless, and in truth, anything but a win here for United could spell disaster early on in this new season.
