A victorious Dr. Samuel Oledo who was on Thursday afternoon reinstated as the Uganda Medical Association (UMA), President claims a few ‘weevils’ within are conniving with opposition figures to fight him and the President.

Oledo was reinstalled as President following a ruling by the High Court Judge Musa Sekaana on grounds that he was illegally suspended. Justice Ssekana said the respondent’s counsel attempted to raise several preliminary objections which he did not find fit and proper to be determined in the present application.

“The respondent’s counsel further argued in opposition to the application by way of raising the same or similar preliminary objections which I find not fit to be determined at the preliminary stage without sufficient evidence,” the ruling reads in part

Shortly after the ruling, a boastful Oledo said that besides enjoying a good working relationship with over 95 percent of the workers, a few individuals are being used by the opposition to fight their agenda.

“I know 95% of the doctors are silent but are supporting and the few infiltrated by kawukuumi (weevils) are the ones who feel even if NRM government has done something, it is not good enough,” he said, adding that “I sound a warning that whoever in opposition wants to fight me and President Museveni using UMA that you won’t succeed. I will fight you tooth and nail. All doctors will fight you tooth and nail. We are ready to work with President Museveni because he is the sitting president and government to improve the health sector.  Whether you want to cry, we are to do it,”

Oledo insisted that his political affiliations should not be a matter of concern because he is a known member and supporter of the ruling NRM.

“I contested in the recent NRM primaries for EALA while I  was still president of UMA but none came up and said it was political I shouldn’t contest. But when I kneel before the fountain of honour to say the doctors  pockets are not happy, it becomes a crime? Aren’t those  double standards.”

On Sunday last week, UMA voted for Edith Nakku Joloba as President and suspended Oledo for four years on grounds that he violated articles three and seven of the UMA constitution.

However, on Monday, the Civil Division High Court issued a temporary order staying Oledo as President until a judgment is made on the matter.

Elvis Ssemuyaba, Oledo’s lawyer, said UMA failed to follow the right procedures while suspending his client.
