Hassan Wasswa got the shock of his life when he was confirmed for a place on the bench by new Cranes tactician Johnny McKinstry.

Hassan Wasswa who was the heart of the team at the Afcon finals in Egypt, plies his trade in Saudi Arabia for Al-Ittihad Jeddah club.

In his competitive Cranes day out, Northern Irish Mckinstry did not include the utility Uganda Cranes star. He instead sought out for the services of Israeli based Timothy Awani and Murushid Juuko who plays in Morocco.

In the deep defensive midfield position where he has been used, Khalid Awucho was preferred.

Sources in the Cranes camp say Hassan Wasswa hasn’t been used because of fitness issues.

Sources say he has been in the country for weeks and the Cranes boss did not want to risk him in a tough away fixture.
